Trueno Mezcal

WORK
Packaging, Branding & Identity

DETAILS
The goal of this project was to create a beverage product, determine its name, create flavors, and establish its packaging to create a cohesive brand system which could easily lend itself to several different flavors.

I was inspired by the origin story of mezcal and wanted to incorporate this into the brand. The ancient story says that Mezcal was first discovered when lightning struck an agave plant at the core which cracked it open and out poured Mezcal. This story sparked the idea for the name chosen for the brand, Trueno which means thunder in Spanish. First came the lightning, and then came the thunder, Trueno.
This design was also inspired by the
Mexican folk art style of alebrije, where spirit animals are then carved and then hand painted. The detail and intricacy of the painting is striking and embodies the high-quality, handcrafted element that I aim to convey within my design.

Logo Development

For the exploration of the logo I was inspired by the raw form of the agave plant as well as the spiritual animals of alibrejes. Another form of inspiration came from historic Mexican architecture, filled with tiled patterns and rounded architecture.
